AXIAL FLOW TURBINES 3
In a double regulated Axial Flow turbine the guide vanes are operated by a linkage system which, via PLC control, is linked with the runner blade actuation system.
This give the highest possible efficiency output from the turbine over a wide range of flow and head variations.
Axial Flow turbines can be adapted to suit very specific conditions.
As well as having the choice of either double or single regulation, the Axial Flow turbine is available in a variety of configurations and orientations.
Orientation wise, the Axial Flow turbine is available in vertical, horizontal and inclined options.
With regards to configurations, this type of turbine is available as a Vertical Open Flume, Vertical Tubular, Inclined Open Flume, Inclined Tubular, Horizontal, "S" Type, "Z" Type, Bulb and Siphon.
In addition, Newmills Hydro manufactures a special type of Axial Flow turbine, a "Needle Eye" turbine, in which the water splits into two separate semi-circular pipes prior to rejoining at the guide vane casing.
This type of turbine is for small runner diameters only, and on sites where the turbine needs to be included in a pipeline system (as in water-treatment plants).
Again, these turbine types and configurations have been standardised to reduce manufacturing and installation costs.
