About the Site: Varty Water Treatment Works are located in the Wicklow Mountains just south of Dublin. The works provide drinking water for south Dublin and the Wicklow area. NHT’s turbine was chosen to replace an existing Pelton Wheel turbine which had supplied power on site previously.
About the Turbine: NHT’s unique design was chosen after an international tender bid process. The design includes a bypass and energy dissipation valve to ensure the treatment works water supply at all times. The turbine was entirely constructed at NHT’s manufacturing facility in N. Ireland. NHT also designed and built the state of the art control panel. Due to the unique skid mounted design NHT operatives installed the machine in one day! NHT’s engineers commissioned the turbine in November 2007.
